Lifetime Alamosa resident and business co-owner of Greco's Marlite Lounge for 30 years Valentino R. Griego Sr., 52, passed away January 15, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife of 33 years, children and family.
Valentino was born on July 22, 1958 in Alamosa, Colorado the son of Elias Griego Sr. and Valentina Sanchez Griego.
Valentino was an honorary member of the Marine Corp, former Elk, who loved gambling, bingo, "the sizzling 7's" slot machine, watching Lifetime and his Golden Girls, he loved the time he spent with his friends and family but mostly his five fantastic grandchildren and the hope to see his sixth grandchild.
Survivors include his wife Grace Griego of Alamosa, Colo.; his children Adam (Andrea) Griego, Stephen Griego, Sophia (David) Avila, Vanessa (Aaron) Martinez all of Alamosa, Colo.; Valentino Griego Jr. of Littleton, Colo.; six grandchildren; one sister Mary Quirico of Alamosa, Colo.; brothers Jesse Griego, Robert (Joyce) Griego Charlie (Janice) Griego, Eddie (Cindy) Griego, Joe (Donna) Griego, all of Alamosa, Colo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Valentino was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Valentina Griego, brothers, Danny Griego, Frankie Griego, Tony Griego, Cornelio Griego, Elias "Sonny" Griego and Pete "Pato" Griego sisters Gloria Griego and Sofie Martinez.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa with refreshments to follow. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. also at the Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery with dinner to follow at the Sacred Heart Church. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday from 1-5 at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa who is in care of the arrangements.
