John Hale Rutledge, a lifelong Lizton resident, died Monday. He was 86. Born Jan. 29, 1924, he was a son of Harry A. and Edith L. (Hale) Rutledge. He married Ruth E. Smith in Brownsburg on Nov. 24, 1946, and she survives.
He worked 30 years as a livestock broker for Winchel, Eversull, McCready & Co. at the Indianapolis Stockyards. Mr. Rutledge was also an assistant sexton at the Lizton K. of P. Cemetry and enjoyed mowing the 15 acres with about 4,000 headstones.
A lifelong Democrat, he served as Hendricks County chairman and Union Township precinct committeeman. He was also a member of the K. of P. Lodge.
Additional survivors include children Lynne Holloway and husband Mike, sons Tom Rutledge and wife Peggy and Mark Rutledge and wife Gayle; grandchildren Danielle Frazier and husband Phil, Valerie Rutledge and companion Cheryl Sherrille, Robert Holloway, Drs. Ryan Rutledge and wife Alex, Derek Rutledge, and Ethan Rutledge; and great-grandsons Nick, John and Matt Frazier.
Services were held at the David Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, with Brenda Truax officiating. Interment followed at the K. of P. Cemetery in Lizton.
