Rozina "Rose" Hancock was born December 5, 1896 in Taylor, Arizona Territory, before the state was admitted to the United States. Her parents were Joseph Smith Hancock & Emily Davis Wallace. Rose was the 11th of 12 children born in the family.

Grandmother Rose died on December 13th, 1972 in the Holbrook hospital after being hospitalized for pneumonia and she then suffered from complications after falling out of her hospital bed.

Rozina "Rose" Hancock married Perry Meeks "Pug" Pearce in Taylor, Navajo Co., AZ on the 6th of November in 1914.

Rose & Pug's 12 children:
1 Ruth May Pearce 1915-1970)
2 June Rose Pearce (1917-1978)
3 Perry Dean Pearce (1919-1927)
4 Lyle Pearce (1923-1991)
5 Stanley Joseph Pearce (1925-2008)
6 Florence "Ilean" Pearce (1927-2003)
7 Boyd Harold Pearce (1929-2012)
8 Sharmon George Pearce (1932-...)

Rozina "Rose" & Perry "Pug" Pearce also raised Pug's niece & nephew, Florence & Stanley LeBaron after their mother Mary Jane Pearce (LeBaron) died. Also their grandchildren Elwin "Dwight" Stuart & Kathryn Rose (Kathy) Jones lived with them sometimes.

Several people and sources have said that no one was ever turned away from their door. Everyone, even if a stranger, friends and family, knew they were welcome to stop by Perry & Rose Pearce's for food, a bed or conversation.

When I was a teenager we lived next door to Grandma. Every Saturday I would go over to her place and help her wash her hair and curl it. Then a couple of hours later I would go back and comb and style her hair. I loved the conversations we had about the family and the stories she shared with me. It truly helped jell my love for genealogy.

There are at least 29 direct descendants named after Grandma Rose. So if you name your child Rose be sure to let me know so we can add your baby to the "Rose list".

Love you always Grandma Rose - Rest in Peace.
