June 23, 1966 - John F. Beiser, 74, widely known retired Algona businessman, died at Veteran's Hospital, Des Moines, Monday afternoon. He was a lifelong resident of Algona. Funeral services for Mr. Beiser were to be held today (Thursday) at 9:30 a.m. in St. Cecelia's Catholic church, with Msgr. P. P. Gearen officiating. Burial was at Calvary cemetery here, with military rites at the graveside. Hamilton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Frank Rosmann, Al Eischeid, Harvey Johnson, Matt Bormann, John Larson, and John Lentsch.
John Beiser, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Lentsch Beiser, was born here Feb. 2, 1892 He was married to Kathryn Barbaras here Sept. 14, 1926. She survives.
Mr. Beiser was a partner with L. Guderian in business here after World War I, in which he served overseas. They manufactured cigars and operated the Smoke Shop and Mr. Beiser later operated the firm as sole owner. He was active in the business until 1956 when fire partially destroyed it. He retired at the time.
John was a highly-respected member of the ommunity who was always prepared to talk with anyone about his favorites, the St. Louis Cardinals, and kept in touch with sports of all kinds. He had an honorary life membership in the American Legion and was a charter member of the local V. F, W. and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, William, New York City; and three sisters, Mary Beiser and Mrs. Eva Deim, Algona, and Kate, Mrs. Lee Hornbuckle, Spencer. A son, James, preceded him in death in 1952.
