Cora Irene Morton Menzies, 79, died Saturday, February 5, 1994 in Nephi, Juab County, not far from the tumbledown miner's shack in Eureka where she started, nearly eighty years ago.

Cora was born at dawn on the morning of March 7, 1914, the fifth child of John Wesley and Cora Irene Bray Morton. The family later moved to Provo, where Cora grew up and fell in love with Charles W. Menzies--the boy across the street. Married March 30, 1935, Charlie and Cora briefly made their home in Salt Lake before moving to Price, where they reared their three sons and daughter and made many dear friends too numerous to name. In particular, Cora was fond of all "the kids" in her social club, surviving members of which will never forget Mom's homemade bread, her out-of-this-world rolls, her compassion for all creatures great and small, and unflagging sense of humor. The life of the party, her infectious laugh never failed to crack up everybody in the room.Cora was an extraordinary cook and homemaker. No dust ever settled on her furniture, and she could make such a snug bed you needed a shoehorn to tuck yourself in. Her rose garden was the envy of the neighborhood. Her kids were her pride and joy. Her husband was the light of her life.

Charlie died suddenly, March 27, 1985, and was buried on the day that was to have been their golden wedding anniversary. Cora was never the same again. For nine long years she waged a determined and brutal fight against Alzheimer's Disease. Saturday night she finally won a round.

Cora is survived by her children, James W., of Edmonds, Washington; Charles M., of Diamond Bar, California; Richard D., of Salt Lake City; Carolyn Christensen, of Fountain Green. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her brother, Lawnrence Morton, of American Fork.

"Mom, you were the greatest! We won't forget you, ever."

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 1994, 11 a.m. in the Price 5th Ward Chapel. Viewing will be at the church Thursday, one hour prior to services. Fausett Mortuary will remain open Wednesday until 9 p.m. for those who wish to sign the book. Burial will be in the Price Cemetery.
