BUCYRUS: Herbert H. Adams, age 78, of rural Bucyrus, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 2:15 a.m. at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.

Herbert was born on November 27, 1933 at his grandfather's home in Tomahawk, Kentucky, to James M. and Joann (Preece) Adams both of whom are deceased. He married Edith Perry on November 10, 1956 and she died on January 20, 1981. He then married Carolyn Shook and they later divorced.

Herbert is survived by children, Keith (Linda) Adams of Bucyrus, Ohio, Ken Adams of Columbus, Ohio, Kurt (Crystal) Adams of Powell, Ohio, a daughter, Karen (Mike) Phillips of Carey, Ohio and a step daughter, Lori Keckler of Buena Vista, Virginia; grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Stake of Bucyrus, Kim Adams of Bucyrus, Joshua (Adrian) Adams of Bucyrus, Kayla Adams of Powell, Kyle Adams of Powell, Nicholas (Nichole) Phillips and Alton (Megan Nalle -fiance') Phillips, Perry (Lauren Ensley-fiance") Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, and Russell Phillips, all of Carey; and three great grandchildren, Hannah, Haily, and Heather Adams all of Bucyrus.

Herbert is also survived by two brothers, Paul Adams of Circleville, Ohio and John and Charla Wurm-Adams of Bucyrus, Ohio, and one sister, Eve Martin of Inez, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; five brothers, Rockford Adams, Alex Adams, Martin Adams, Elmer Adams, and Elden Adams; and two sisters, Roxie Dials and Polly Ann Adams.

Herbert graduated from Warfield High School in Warfield, Kentucky in 1955. He served in the Navy from 1952 - 1956 during the Korean War. He then moved to Nevada in 1957 where he worked for General Telephone for 30 years. He also owned and operated Adams Drugstore in Nevada from 1968 to 1982 and also Karen's Diner in Bucyrus from 1982 to 1992.

Herbert served on the Nevada Volunteer Fire Department, was a former Nevada Council Member, was at one time the Civil Defense Director for Wyandot County, and was a member of the Robert Case American Legion Post 462 in Nevada.

For hobbies Herbert enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator with his call sign being KB8UMJ, and working outside especially planting trees and he loved his dog and best friend "Brownie".

Funeral services for Herbert Adams will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada, Ohio with the Rev. Ray Lasalle officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Nevada Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted. Visitations will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Lucas - Batton Funeral Home in Nevada.
