Obituary for Dee Mott Wallace Jr
Dee Mott Wallace, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, November 15, 2010, at Eureka Nursing Center at the age of 91.

He was born on November 30, 1918 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Dee Mott Wallace, Sr., and Leah Marshall Wallace. Dee Sr. was serving in the Army in France during World War 1, and Leah died from the Great Influence ten days after Dee’s Jr.’s birth. Upon Dee Sr.’s return to the states, he went to Erie to meet his son for the first time. He brought him back two years later to the Wallace Farm in Eureka, which had been homesteaded in 1871.

He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. After his high school graduation he attended Kansas State University. Dee married Erma Porter, from Virgil, on September 26, 1938 and they lived on the Wallace farm, working with his father. In 1946, Dee moved his family to Medford, Oregon where he worked for three years on his Uncle Charlie Hoover’s ranch raising cattle and sheep.

They returned to Eureka renting the Gray farm 15 miles northwest of Eureka to begin his own family farming and ranching business. During this time Dee began a second career working for an oil company. In 1956, he moved his family into Eureka. They returned to the Wallace farm in 1970.

Dee was a member of the Congregational Church serving on many committees. He served as a board member of Home Bank and the Eureka Downs. He also was active in Farm Bureau, Rural Water District #2, the Lions Club, and many other organizations.

Dee is survived by one son, Roger of Eureka; daughter, Deanna and her husband, Don Born of Los Olivos, California; four grandchildren, Ryan and Bill Wallace of Eureka, Monett and husband, Brian Engel of Ladera Ranch, California, and Jon Born of Bangkok, Thailand; six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Grace and husband, Curtis Newby of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 19, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Reverend Rhonda K. Almond of the Christian & Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing hours are from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or the Greenwood County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
