OBITUARY:
Virgil E. Walters, 81, Sullivan, died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in Greene County General Hospital.
He was born October 8, 1920, in Sullivan County to John and Eula McCammon Walters. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 139. He was formerly employed by Exline Standard Services.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Akers Walters; two sons, Jerry Walters, Sullivan, and Larry Walters, Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Marilyn Johnson, Hymera, and Sandra Wright, Sullivan; three brothers, Herman Walters, Bloomfield, Richard Walters, Dugger, and Robert Walters, Grange; four sisters, Thelma Turpen, Linton, and Gertrude Land, Mary Delph and Karen Ballard, all of Dugger; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Brust Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Willis Ross officiating. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of the Sullivan, Hymera and Shelburn American Legions. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and before services Monday.
