August was the first child born in the USA to his parents, August Sr. and Caroline Firesinger. The family had emigrated with their older 3 children from West Prussia, arriving on the St. Olaf in NY on 4 June, 1872. Their name on the ship manifest was spelled Feuersaenger.

August married Ethel Chubb after the death of his first wife, Jane Porter. He had 2 small daughters at that time. August and Ethel then had 2 more children, Evelyn, and Russell. August worked in a munitions factory in Phila, and was later a foreman in a glass factory there.

They retired to Daytona Beach from Phila in about 1947.
