At 17 he helped his family move to Arizona. He became a cowboy and learned to break wild horses by subduing them. He became acquainted with the Oscar Newell Despain family in Chino and fell in love with their daughter Inez. They were married in Prescott, June 1, 1925. They made the 3 day journey to Salt Lake to be sealed in the Temple there. They made their home in Prescott, where 5 of their 6 children were born - Dwain, Verdaun, Doran , Sharon and Daryl. They moved to Tucson in 1944 where Dale was born.
Evan loved to hunt and fish and taught himself taxidermy by reading some books. He tried his hand at selling Life Insurance and found he was a born salesman and did very well. They moved to Mesa in 1956, then to Safford in 1967, when he retired. They came back to Mesa in 1975. He passed away Feb. 16, 1984 at the age of 81.
