OBITUARIES

Mrs. Miranda Messman
Miranda Lorena Sackett was born April 14th, 1845 near Springfield, Illinois and answered the Master's summons, June 4th, 1932, aged 87 years, one month and 21 days.

In 1854 she moved with her parents, John and Rhoda Sackett to Henry county, Iowa, where they located on a farm six miles north of Mt. Pleasant, where she grew to womanhood.

On February 14th, 1870 she was united in marriage to Clayton T. Simmons. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Lola Marquis of Osceola and Mrs. Grace Sweeney, deceased.

She was left a widow, March 6th, 1875, after which she, with her two small children made their home with her parents until January 28th, 1885, when she was married to Jacob Messman of Clarke county, Iowa, who proceeded her in death, May 31st, 1903.

When l years of age she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Prairie Gem on Mt. Pleasant circuit.

She was a good mother, a faithful wife, a loved and respected neighbor.

During her last long illness she gave many words of testimony to the power of God and that the sufferings of the present were not to be compared with the glories that shall be revealed to the redeemed by His blood.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Bethel Chapel church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. I. S. Caldwell, pastor of the Methodist Protestant church, Osceola, Iowa and interment made at Bethel chapel cemetery.
