Benjamin Martin Bailey was born Dec. 31, 1852 in Auburn, Illinois and was 62 years, 10 months, and 27 days old at the time of his death. He came to Republic county, Kansas in 1870 and spent the remainder of his life on his farm in Freedom township. He was married to Mary A. Creighton, November 12, 1882 and ten children were born to this union, three having died a nmber of years ago, Ethel E., Mabel A., and Arthur. The wife and the following children survive, Mrs. Lillian McIntosh of South Dakota, Mrs. Flossie Torbert of Amarillo, Texas, Ada, Madge, Amos, Ray and Clyde are at home. E. M. Bailey of this city is a brother. Mrs. Lew Mackey of Graham county and Mrs. George Personette of this city are sisters. Mr. Bailey was a member of the Christian church of Belleville, joining in 1871.
The funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock with Rev. Engle, pastor of the Christian church, in charge. Burial was made in the Belleville cemetery.
