She was born September 22, 1932 in Beaumont, Texas to E. A. Alford and Elizabeth Reading Alford. She came to East Texas with her family at age 2 months. She graduated from White Oak High School in 1950 and then went on to Nursing School at Parkland Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas where she graduated in 1953. Her first employment was at Roy H. Laird Memorial Hospital in Kilgore, then later at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview. On June 20, 1966, Pat became employed as the Occupational Health Nurse at Joseph Schlitz Brewery from which she retired after 33 years.

Pat was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia on August 9, 1994 and since that time she has fought a courageous battle and never gave up. Pat was a very out going positive caring person who never met a stranger. She was an extremely dedicated office volunteer at Trinity Episcopal Church for a number of years where she was a member. Pat had a strong thirst for knowledge and continued to learn throughout her life. She loved working as a Registered nurse and was often termed a "work-a-holic". She loved reading, gardening and caring for her beautiful lawn as long as she was able too.

Pat wishes to thank Dr. Lewis A. Duncan and the entire staff of the Longview Cancer Center, the wonderful dedicated staff of A-400 at good Shepherd Medical Center, and her very special friends who meant so much to her for their love and support. She also wants to thank her other physicians who were instrumental in her care, and a very special thanks to her dear friend and care giver, Wanda Beckworth.
