Edwin Alonzo Bonneau was born 28 September 1829 in Charleston, SC. His parents were William Henry Bonneau and Anna Maria Swinton. The family moved to Lowndes County Alabama when Edwin was small. Later the family migrated to DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, When word that war was coming reached them, the family moved back to Alabama. Edwin would remain in Louisiana where he attended medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans and graduated in 1860. He began his medical practice in Louisiana. On 8 March 1862 Edwin enlisted in the Confederate Army at Mansfield, Louisiana. His occupation was listed as physician. He was still single and 30 years of age. Company F of the 9th. Regiment Louisiana Infantry would be his unit for the term of the war. This unit was heavily engaged in the war, and Edwin would see action in many battles including: Front Royal, 1st Winchester, Cross Keys, Cold Harbor, Malveru Hill, 1st Fredericksburg, 2nd Fredericksburg, 2nd Winchester, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Hanover Junction, Shepherdstown, Smithfield, Fisher's Hill, Bell Grove, and Hatcher's Run. He was paroled at Selma, Alabama in June of 1865. Edwin returned to Mansfield where he married Susan F. Womack on 29 November 1869. Susan, daughter of H.H. and Jane A. Womack. By 1880 Edwin and his wife, Susan were living in Orange County, Texas. He was still listed as a physician. They were listed in the Houston City Directories during the very late 1880's. It is unknown when and where Edwin died, but his widow, Susan who was born about 1847 died in 1904 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. She is buried in Magnolia Cemetery there. Edwin and Susan had no children.
