"MRS. COOLEY, PIONEER, DIES AT SILVERTON

Silverton - Mrs. Willemina Smith Cooley, aged 84 years, passed away in Silverton late Friday afternoon. She had been a resident of Oregon for the past 80 years and was well-known in Silverton and other points in the Willamette valley.

Mrs. Cooley was born September 11, 1842, at Wooster, Ohio. She crossed the plains two years later with her family. They settled near Portland.

December 23, 1886, Mathias Cooley married Willemina Smith. They settled at Waconda, later living at Gervais and Down station. In 1906 they came to Silverton. Mr. Cooley died December 8, 1915.

Mrs. Cooley was the mother of nine children, two of whom are deceased. Mrs. Tillie Duncan passed away in Portland in 1926 and Mrs. Lillian Erdin Suckow, another daughter, in 1907.

Survivors include C. J. and M. J. Cooley and Mrs. Jennie Sunningham, all of Silverton, S. J. Cooley of Wemmer, Mrs. Byrde Miller and Wallace Cooley of Portland, Willis Cooley of Seattle. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

The body will lie in state at the family home, 312 Lewis street, Saturday evening and throughout Sunday. Funeral services will be held from the Ekman chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with interment in the Silverton cemetery. Rev. D. Lester Fields will officiate.
