James Winecup Bennett was a farmer and a logger. He was short of stature and he always wore a beard. He was a strict disciplinarian yet kind of heart. In 1888, he and his family lived in Slaughter, Louisiana. He worked as a logger across the Mississippi River and came home only on weekends. They also lived in East Baton Rouge Parish. The 1900 census for Livingston Parish shows him living there, a farmer with his wife and eight children. James Winecup was another of the Bennett family to suffer the effects of skin cancer.
