Mary was the daughter of William L. Whittington and Elizabeth (Thurston) Whittington.

Mary and Roscoe P. Steen were united in marriage. We do not have the dates or place of marriage. By both of their obituaries, they did not have any children.

OBITUARY FOR MRS. MARY WHITTINGTON STEEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Whittington Steen, age 92 of Kelly, will be 10A.M. Thursday, October 8,2009 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Bruce McGee officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery in Kelly. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M. Mrs. Steen was born on December 16, 1916 in Monroe to the union of William L. and Elizabeth Thurston Whittington and passed from this life on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe. Mrs. Mary and her husband Roscoe owned and operated Steen's Grocery in Kelly for numerous years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Columbia and Columbia Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R. P. "Roscoe" Steen, father and mother-in-law: Vanner and Angie Steen.
Survivors include three sisters; Mildred Deason of West Monroe, Kathryn Browder and husband, Dewayne of Heflin and Carrie Bryan of Downsville and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Freddie Brown, Chad Swan, Curtis Corbin, Jimmy Hottinger, Patrick Gryder and Jimmy Hendrix.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Baum, Bob Pardue and Eric Rogers. Burial: Good Hope Cemetery, Caldwell Parish, Louisiana.

Mary was married to my 6th cousin.
