A retired farmer and Confederate veteran, the son of James H. and Susan M. Becham Wood, who was buried 25 Feb 1925. Other resources say born in MS.

He married Malissa Ann Maynard 14 July 1872 in MS. They had 7 children (8 according to 1900 census), only 4 of whom were still living in 1925. The family moved to Arkansas, then back to MS, coming to Texas in 1880. They settled first in Delta County, then at Telico in Ellis County in October 1889, coming to Ennis during the fall of 1907.

Mr. Wood joined the Baptist Church during his boyhood and served gallantly in the Civil War, true to the lost cause for which he fought. He was a lovable old man, devoted to his wife and his children and will be greatly missed.

Survivors were his wife; children W.B. Wood of Ennis, S.D. Wood of Dunn in Scurry County, Mrs. C.I. Ownes (sic) of Smithfield, I. (Ira) Alma Wood of Longview; brothers S.M. (Samuel Moses) Wood of Ennis and John Wood of Western Texas; sisters Mrs. Millie Bland and Mrs. Fannie Burroughs, both of Haskell; half-brother Jud Wood of Sweetwater; and half-sister Mrs. Claudia Flack of McGregor.

Honorary pallbearers were all the Doctors and members of Camp James Longstreet.
