THAT DAY 11/22/1963 in DALLAS HISTORY ...
On 11/22/63, Officer Jennings was intimately involved in the historic events of the aftermath of the JFK assassination. According to the book "Where I come from", by Brian Woolley, Officer Jennings was stationed at the Trade Mart waiting for JFK to arrive to give his speech when word arrived he the President had been shot. He was then sent to Parkland Hospital, where he said he assisted Lyndon Johnson's party in leaving the Hospital for Love Field and in loading President Kennedy's casket into the hearse and assisting Jackie. In a 25th Anniversary Dallas Morning News retrospective article, in November 1988, he was interviewed and offered more detail about his experience:
"I put it in the back of the hearse and took her (Mrs. Kennedy) up to the front seat of the hearse and opened the door. She turned to get in and then said, 'No, I don't want to ride here I want to ride back there (with the casket).'"

Dallas Police Department Officer James Jennings began his career in announcing sporting events working at Dallas ISD Forrester Field in Pleasant Grove where he gave play by play coverage of high school football games. He went on to announcing weekly at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo for several years. He retired from the Police Department to pursue a full-time career in announcing and broadcasting the games for the Dallas Cowboys. He became the voice of the Dallas Cowboys for many years. He left his announcing job when Jerry Jones arrived and began working for Adidas Footwear.
After his retirement from Adidas, Jennings and his wife drove to the many county seats across Texas to photograph the courthouses and collect information regarding their history. It took approximately three years for them to complete it this endeavor. Their book,Courthouses of Texas, is a pictorial and historical view of each courthouse in the 254 counties of Texas.
This was written by Gil Henson, a friend and fellow co-worker with Mr Jennings at the Dallas Police Department.
