HERTHA I. GREUNEWALD
Mrs. Hertha I. Grunewald, 87, a resident of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home and formerly of 317 North Wisconsin Drive, Howards Grove, passed away Monday, at Sunny Ridge after a lengthy illness.
The former Hertha Roethel was born November 8, 1900 in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Henry and Elisa Schulz Roethel. She attended school in the Town of Meeme.
On September 20, 1924 she married Norbert W. Grunewald at St. John's Untied Church of Christ, in Schwarzwald. Mr. Grunewald died July 19, 1968.
Mrs. Grunewald worked at Konz Container Company for many years. She also worked in the kitchen at the Howards Grove High School for several years, before her retirement.
She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ (Schwarzwald) where she also served as Sunday school teacher for 25 years. She was a member of St. John's Guild.
Mrs. Grunewald was also charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies Auxiliary, Howards Grove Post 9924.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin (Minnie) and James (Carolyn) Grunewald, both of Howards Grove; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hugo Roethel, of Oostburg, Arvin Roethel, of Sheboygan and Reinhold Roethel, of Kiel.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's UCC in Schwarzwald, the Rev. Lloyd Fried, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the ZIMMER FUNERAL HOME in Howards Grove after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The V.F.W. Post 9924 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. On Thursday friends may call at the funeral home until 10 a.m. and at the church from 11 a.m. until time of services.
A memorial fund has been established in Hertha Grunewald's name.
