EWALD E. FRANZ

Ewald E. Franz, 88, a resident of Sunny Ridge Healthcare Center, and formerly of Howards Grove and Town of Herman, died at Sunny Ridge on Friday, May 6, 1994.
He was born May 29, 1905 in the Town of Herman, a son of the late Gustave and Helen Szeppull Franz. He attended local schools.
On June 15, 1929 Edna Kuhfuss and Ewald Franz were united in marriage. The couple farmed over 30 years in the Town of Herman. Later Ewald worked as a electrical engineer at Camp Haven for 10 years, then he was employed as a plumber and electrician until 1970. Ewald continued to work in maintenance at the Howards Grove Schools until his retirement.
Ewald was active in St. Johns United Church of Christ where he was a member over 60 years, holding leadership positions in the consistory and the Men's Brotherhood. He was also active in the St. Johns choir and community organizations such as the local school board, Farm Bureau and 4-H. Edna and Ewald enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Edna preceded him in death on November 6, 1987.
Funeral services for Ewald Franz will be held Monday, May 9, 1994 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Schwartzwald, with the Rev. Lloyd Fried officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Zimmer Funeral Home of Howards Grove on Sunday from 4 until 9 p.m. and at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Monday.
Survivors of Ewald E. Franz include one son, Jerome, of Poynette, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Marion (LaVern) Prinsen, of Cedar Grove, and Mrs. Caroline (Ronald) Doersch, of Madison; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Witmer Giese of Wautoma, Wis., and Mrs. Marie (Vernon) Thieleke, of Howards Grove; one brother-in-law, Henry Knoener, of Ada. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one sister.
A memorial fund has been established in the name of Ewald E. Franz to St. Johns United Church of Christ.
