Sorenson, Walter J. Sr. WATERFORD Walter J. Sorensen Sr., 86, of Murray Avenue, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born and educated in Waterford, he was the son of the late Carl H. and Loretta McMahon Sorensen. Walt was employed for 22 years by the Ford Tractor and Implement Division and retired in 1985. Prior to that he was employed at the former Eddy Valve Co. in Waterford. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II in the European Theater with the101st Airborne. He and his four brothers served in the Armed Forces at various times and his brother Edward was killed in action in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Charles J. Brady Post, the VFW Waterford Memorial Post 5800 and Tibbits Cadets in Troy. He also was a 50-year member of Kavanaugh Hook and Ladder Co. in Waterford. He was a former member of the Waterford K of C Council 237 and the Cohoes-Waterford Lodge of Elks. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Meeson Sorensen; his children, John Sorensen (Donna), Carol Burniche (Ed), Walter Sorensen Jr. (Susan), all of Waterford and Albert Vandervoort (Josee) of Pleasantville. He was the brother of the late Carl, Edward, John, William and Elsie Sorensen, Marie Bauer and Loretta O'Rourke; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were conducted from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
