Carpenter worked on many homes and barns in the area and also did church roofs in Youngstown-Pittsburgh area.He also worked for a long time as a carpenter in the local coal mines along with his son Sylvanus who later became a mine boss. He always went by Frank Cover and not Benjamin Franklin Cover. Probably because his uncles and cousins also named Benjamin lived so close. It would have saved confusion. His brother John Henry Cover always went by Henry Cover, probably because uncles and cousins and father were also named John. As a young man he was thin. Bob Cover of Dundee, Michigan has a charcoal drawing of him taken at about age 25 - maybe marriage time. He was thin and had long hair behind the ears, the style of the day. In his obituary photo and a family photo that Emeline Cover Flickinger had, he was a heavier robust man with a large cookie duster moustache. His sons were all built like him. After his son Van got married in 1888 to Catherine Heck -Palmer (who had a daughter Margaret Palmer from her first marriage) Frank and his other two sons, John and Henry, helped them build a two story log home on Sharrott Road. They hired a local sawyer to saw the trees that were felled from their own woods. All of the lumber to build this house and first barn came from this very same land on Sharrott Road. Frank (BF) was a private in the Squirrel Hunter Regiment of the local militia during the Civil war. He and Emeline were married January 14, 1864 in Petersburg, Ohio.
