DUFFIELD, Va. - Hazel M. McDavid Hensley, 73, passed away Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Scott County. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and touched the hearts of countless friends whom she encountered in her lifetime. She always had a smile and an abundance of love and kindness for everyone.

She was of the Pentecostal faith and loved the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Roy and Lettie McDavid; three brothers, Ernest, Paul, and Crawford McDavid; one sister, Lily Mae Baxter; a grandson, Mark Allen Hensley; and her mother-in-law, Carrie Lewis.

Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Willie Hensley of Duffield; three sons, Lynn Hensley and fiance, Jo Hartley, Roger Hensley and wife, Karen, Jeff Hensley and wife, Connie, all of Duffield; grandsons, Michael Hensley and wife, Krista, Brian Hensley and wife, Destiny of Duffield, Derrick Hensley and wife, Tesha of Gray, Anthony Hensley and wife, Jessica of Rye Cove, Va., Matthew Hensley and wife, Mashara of Duffield; great-grandsons, Brady, Cory, and Jaxon; great-granddaughters, Shaylee Grayce, Cadence, and the pending arrival of another great-granddaughter; one brother, Joe McDavid and wife, Monnie of Rye Cove; four sisters, Jane Ramsey, Betty Minton, and husband, Carl, Wanda Hammonds and husband, Jimmy, Phyllis Hammonds and husband, Steve, all of Rye Cove; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her dear close friends for their love and kindness down through the years. There are so many that listing them individually would be difficult, but each one knows her love for them.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday with Elder Jimmy Hammonds and Rev. Joe Roberts officiating. Eulogy will be given by Rev. Joe Hill.

Music will be provided by the Mabe Quartet and Bro. Rex Hensley.

Committal services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McDavid Cemetery in Rye Cove, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 for procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Matt Townsend.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Hincher, Walter Ray Spivey, J.P. Hill, Elmer Jessee, and Robert Ensley.
