Son of Joseph P. McMakin.


William, who resided in St. George's, Delaware, served as a Water Tender First Class on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. St. Lo, U.S. Navy during World War II.


He was "Killed In Action" when the St. Lo was sunk during the battle of Leyte Gulf during the war.


He had served in the Navy for two years and eight months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
