Emiliano, a native of Truchas and resident of Española, passed away at the St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe. He was predeceased by parents Abenicio and Onofre Fernandez.

Emiliano was survived by his wife of 58 years, Elisia; two sons: Ernie and Ernie Emiliano Fernandez; three daughters: Angelina Sullivan, Ruth Bustos, and Polly Valdez; three brothers: Severo Gonzales, Arsenio Fernandez, and Benito Lopez; three sisters: Grace Trujillo, Sabinita Fernandez, and Celia Padilla; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emiliano was a World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a school bus contractor and trained race horses.

Funeral services were on 9 Feb 1998 in Sacred Heart Church in Española. Burial was in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers: A.B. Valdez, Michael Valdez, Lawrence Bustos, Severo Gonzales, Gilbert Martinez, and Johnny Silva. Honorary pallbearers: Ernesto Vigil, Saby Gurule, Phil Sanchez, Juan Duran, Melaquias Valdez, Benito Chavez, Alfredo Montoya, Conrad Herrera, Antonio Garcia, Carlos Jaramillo, Diego Ortiz, and Tommy Rodella.
