Obit:Mrs. M.J. Strong was born July 18, 1853 in Cedar Co, MO where she lived until 1868, when she was united in marriage with Charles Ashburn & came to Anderson County, Kas.,and here she spent most of her life.
Of this union there were eight children, of whom four are living:George Ashburn, E.S. Ashburn, & Charles Ashburn of Garnett, and Albert Ashburn of Kansas City.
In 1885, for the benefit of her husband's health, the family moved back to Cedar county, MO, on her old home farm, six miles east of El Dorado Springs, hoping the mineral waters there would prove beneficial; but the following spring-in March, 1886-he passed away, after which she came back to Garnett.
In July 1888, Mrs Ashburn was united in marriage with John W. Strong. To them were born four children, two of whom survive, Mrs. John Tipton, of Garnett, and John Strong, of Kansas City.
Mrs. Strong was a "home body," and the comfort of her family was of first importance to her; yet, she was helpful to others when they needed assistance, and she drew about her many admiring friends, whose sympathy goes out to her sorrowing family."
