Franklin was the son of Frank and Minnie Bublitz. He was the brother of Edward and Lorraine.


Franklin enlisted in the National Guard February 14, 1941 and he was transferred to the Air Corps in August, 1942. On August 5, 1943, he graduated from the bombardier school at Midland, Texas, and was sent to Italy in November, 1943. He died February 23, 1944, when his plane was shot down over Grunau, Austria. The pilot and engineer of this crew were saved and were held prisoners in Germany for 15 months. After liberation, the pilot, Lt. Samsa of Minnesota, investigated and found Franklin's grave on top of Windhag Mountain near Grunau, where he was buried with seven other crew members by the Nazis.


In December, 1949, Franklin's remains were brought back to Arlington Heights for burial. A funeral for him was held December 18, 1949, where military honors were given by the Arlington Heights VFW Post No. 981.
