Born on a cotton farm nine miles from lCorpus Christi, the seventh child of nine to Robert W and Fannie Loe Reams. He married Angelita Jacoby REams, also from Corpus Christ. He practiced law in Falfurrias, Tx for 14 years, and also served as County Attorney of Brooks County, TX from 1941 to 1946. Elected State Rep from six counties in 1946 and served for two years in the Texas Legislature. In 1949 when he was DA in Falfurrias, he was appointed State District Judge of the 79th Judicial District by Governor Alan Shivers and served from 1951 to 1953 where his life was in enough danger that as District Judge he was authorized to and carried a gun, reportedly as protection from the powers that were said to "run" Duval county in those years.
