72, of Rockford, Ill., and formerly of the Brimstone community, passed away Sunday evening, March 6, 1983, at his home following a lingering illness. He was the son of the late William Overton and the late Elizabeth Overton and was preceded in death by one brother, Sherman Overton. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Overton is survived by two daughters: Ruby Butler and Lillian Potter, both of Rockford, Ill.; three sons: Lester and Charles Overton, both of Rockford, Ill., and Roy Overton of the Smokey Junction community; three sisters: Mrs. Daniel (Bertha) Byrge of Huntsville, Gertie Ward of LaFollette, and Evie Overton of Cookeville; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jobby Byrge of LaFollette officiating. The Gospel Crusaders sang. Burial followed in the Carson Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Freddy Bunch, Robert Butler, Harold Clark, Bill Hall, Don Lay, and Doyle Taylor. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
