Louise was the adopted daughter of Charles Walter Smith (185456068) and Louise Pocock (51349697). It is unclear why her biological parents allowed Charles and Louise to adopt her as they had at least nine other children that remained in the home. It is speculated that there may have been illness or hardship involved. Charles and Louise were childless despite having been married since about 1903. Charles and Louise left Florida and returned to his home state of Michigan shortly after their adopted daughter came to live with them.
