Songwriter and composer who under the name Lewis Allan wrote for such artists as Billie Holiday ("Strange Fruit") and Frank Sinatra ("The House I Live In," featured in an Academy Award-winning short) and who, with his wife, adopted the sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg after the couple were executed in 1953 for passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union.
