Funeral services were held on Saturday for prominent local attorney Charles Martin, 65, who passed away last Wednesday at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. Martin, who was a native of West Virginia, had been a well-known defense attorney in this area for a number of years and had also handled cases in federal courts in Knoxville. He was a racing enthusiast and had annually written columns for the newspaper predicting the outcome of such events he always attended, such as the Bluegrass Stakes at Keenland in Lexington, Ky., and the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Martin is survived by his wife, Jean Henderson Martin of Oneida; a daughter, Carla J. Martin of Washington, D. C.; three sons: Charles D., Christopher J., and Curtis Martin, all of Knoxville; two grandchildren: Jason and Wesley Martin of Knoxville; a sister, Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Shoemaker of Oneida; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Oneida, with Rev. Lonnie Eldridge officiating. Burial was in the Carson Memorial Park. Jones and Son Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of arrangements.
