William Hamilton McWhirter was born July 19, 1852 in Marion Co., to Andrew Ferrier McWhirter and Sarah Harper McWhirter. He married Sarah Jane Hallmark, daughter of Thomas Franklin Hallmark and Phoebe Holcomb.
William Hamilton was roofing a house when he had a stroke and fell to the ground. He never recovered. Two of his daughters died in the 1920s, one daughter died in childbirth in 1916 and is buried in the Buttahatchie Cemetery.
William and Sarah Jane Hallmark McWhirter are buried in the Liberty Cemetery in Rock City, Alabama.
William's brother, Andrew Jackson McWhirter, was the census enumerator for William's house and neighborhood in 1900.
