"John W. Eller was married in Orange County, Indiana. He and his new bride rode 55 miles, through the mud, on horseback to their new home in Monroe County. He enlisted in the Union Army in Company I, 145th Indiana Volunteers. After a few weeks at Camp Carrington in Indianapolis, he went to Tunnelton, Georgia. He was made a Corporal in Macon, Ga. on 10 Mar 1865. He was discharged on 21 Jan 1866."
