Father Regis Francis Myers, 84, Hollidaysburg, died Friday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Michael V. and Margaret E. (Gonsman) Myers.

Surviving are a brother, Leonard J. "Bud" and wife, Anna Mae (Eckenrod), of Cresson; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Paul, Vincent and Earl; and four sisters: Martha Bost, Loretta Gumbert, Rita Flippen and Helen McGarry.

Father Myers attended St. Brigid's Grade School and Lilly High School. He attended Virginia Military Institute until entering the U.S. Army on Aug. 15, 1944. He served during WWII in Europe and was discharged in August 1946.

Father Myers graduated from St. Francis College and St. Francis Seminary, Loretto. He was ordained on May 21, 1954, by Bishop R.J. Guilfoyle in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He served as assistant pastor of St. Mary's Parish, Altoona, from May 1954 to June 1963 and also taught at Bishop Guilfoyle High School during this time. He was then named as founding pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Duncansville, where he served until his retirement from active ministry in 1991.

He also built the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima at St. Catherine's and started the annual Mary's Birthday Celebration in September of each year. After his retirement from active ministry, Father served as chaplain at Garvey Manor Nursing Home until his death.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Reception of the body will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, Lilly, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Bishop Joseph Adamec as celebrant and priests of the diocese as con-celebrants. Committal will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Lilly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
