Howard "Guy" SMITH, 83, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesda at his home on R.R. 5, Rochester. He had been in ill health for three years. Mr. Smith had resided in the Tiosa community for the past 35 years, moving there from Mishawaka.
He was born Oct. 18, 1871, at Hunington, to Obediah and Margaret SMITH. His first marriage was to Pearl STRAWDERMAN. She died in 1918 and in 1927 he was wed to Emma PALMER, who survives. Mr. Smith was a carpenter.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Donna HAIGH of Chebanse, Ill.; Mrs. Lois KONOW of South Bend; a son, Roy SMITH, R.R. 1, Argos; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Carmen KATH and Mrs. Doris LONG, both of Tiosa, and Mrs. Mary ZUMBAUGH of Chase, Mich.; two stepsons, Oswald PALMER of Tiosa and Cecil PALMER of Los Angeles; a brother, Otto SMITH, R.R. 5, Rochester; twenty-six grandchildren. A brother, Ed SMITH, and a stepson, James PALMER, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Satrday at the Tiosa Brethren church with the Rev. Wayne SWIHART in charge. Burial will be in the Richland Center cemetery. Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home up until noon Saturday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state
