Lurean Cloward Slaugh, 91, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2011 in Vernal, Utah at the Uintah Basin Care Center. She was born on November 30, 1919 in Red Mesa, Colo. to William Edward & Mary Amelia Roberts Cloward.
Lurean married Afton Gillespie Sawyer in Red Mesa, Colo. and had four children: Gary, Devon, Steve and Letha, later they were divorced. Then she married Ivan Richard Slaugh on May 12, 1947 in Vernal, Utah and had two children, Glen and Milo. Ivan and Lurean were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 19, 1962.
Lurean was very active in church; she held many callings which were in Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society Presidency. Lurean was devoted to her family and friends. She took care of her mother, Mary Amelia for a long time till she passed away. Then she took care of her brother, Ted Cloward who was a paraplegic for many years.
Lurean spent a lot of time with Ivan at Oaks Park and out in the Book Cliffs, she loved going out there. She loved being on the mountain with her family and going for rides with her family looking at the wildlife. She loved to go camping, hunting, cooking, gardening and fishing and just being with her family.
Lurean is survived by: sons Gary (Carolyn) Sawyer, of Vernal; Devon (Judy) Sawyer, Minnesota; Glen (Crystal) Slaugh and Milo (Judy) Slaugh both of Vernal; brother, Mark (Viva) Cloward, Bountiful; and a sister, Jerry Bingham, Roosevelt; brother-in-law, Lynn H (DeeAnn) Slaugh, Texas; 32 grandchildren; 83 great grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren and more on the way, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, her parents, four sisters, two brothers and four grandchildren, son Steve Sawyer and a daughter, Letha Lorimor.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Vernal 5th Ward Chapel (250 North 200 West). Friends and family may call Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Interment will take place at the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
