He was born in Hickory Flats, Mississippi to the late Douglas Darlton Hankins Sr. and Annie Williams Hankins.
Douglas was a Veteran and served in the Army between WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Taylor Springs Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hankins retired from the A&H Cleaners in Vernon, AL. where he was owner and operator for many years.
Survived by his wife: Annie Mae Sorrells Hankins of Beaverton, AL.; a daughter; Nelda Herron (Danny) of Fayette, Al.; two sons; Randy Hankins (Joann) and David Lynn Hankins all of Sulligent, AL.; a sister, Maxine Schultz of Rockford, IL.; four grandchildren; Jason Hankins, Jerry Herron, Michelle Herron and Chastity Hankins; two great- grandchildren, Nataleigh Hankins and John Randall Hankins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Edna Frost and Lucille Crews.
Services held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 5:00 PM from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Taylor Springs Cemetery with Bro. Jeremy Sorrells officiating.
