RUBY LUCILE AVENELL went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 19, 2008; she died in the company and loving care of her son, daughter-in-law and friend Maria at her home in Conroe.

Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend.

Ruby was born November 16, 1915 in Galveston, Texas to Joe and Matilda Gaither. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Avenell, her parents and her two sisters Clara and Lillie.

She is survived by her son, Paul and wife Daia Avenell, her daughter Barbara and husband Howard Gordon, her sisters-in-law Marjorie Avenell Peters and Janelle Avenell Paris. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Johnny Linker, Steven and wife Shelly Avenell, Mark Bilbo, Timothy and wife Alice Bilbo, David and wife Michelle Bilbo along with her great-grandchildren, Paul David Linker, Tyler Avenell, Zane and Mikayla Bilbo, and Alexandria and her husband David Salinas, great-great grandson Ian Salinas, and various nieces and nephews.

Ruby, a woman of Proverbs and woman after God's own heart spent her life in service to others. As a nurse she cared for people and in ministry she served throughout her married life at Pineview Bible Chapel, where she and her long-time friend Hazel, spent many hours preparing handicraft projects for Vacation Bible School each summer and cooking at Cedar Hill and Sandy Creek Bible Camps. Even though she did not recall every young man and lady that came up to her to thank her for the crocheted gifts she had given them as children, she enjoyed the hugs and picture-taking. In her later years, Ruby attended Faith Temple Church where she continued to take pleasure in watching the little children and receiving their handmade gifts and hugs.

Ruby's face seemed so peaceful, one could almost say, joyful, as if she was already getting a glimpse of what's ahead and maybe even Roland who had been waiting for five years, perhaps with outstretched arms. We, who stay behind, sorrow at her home-calling, but as believers we rejoice in the fact that she is now serving her Lord in Glory.

She fought the good fight and is well deserving of the well done good and faithful servant. Ruby will be laid to rest next to her husband of 70 years just as they stood at the altar.

Friends and family are invited to her funeral services; visitation is on Friday, October 24th at Forest Park Lawndale's visitation room starting at 5PM. The funeral will be at Forest Park's Chapel of Angels on Saturday, October 25th at 2:30PM
