Elizabeth, "Lizzie" 58, of Huntington passed away Monday, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Lizzie had been ill and battling metastatic breast cancer for many years.

For many who knew her, Lizzie's death leaves a gaping hole that will be hard to fill. Throughout years of personal challenges from cancer, heart failure, kidney disease, lung failure and other devastating conditions, she refused to focus on herself, but always looked to serve others. Her courage, her love, and her example served as an inspiration to all who knew her.

She volunteered with Huntington Hospice, giving loving care to the dying and their families and co-founded, at College Park Church, a Stephen Ministries chapter to help serve hurting people.

She was a rare jewel. She taught all of us how to live, love, suffer, and triumph in life amid the difficulties that are part of living in a fallen world. She was, in the words of Proverbs 31, a woman of noble character, "worth far more than rubies."

She was a daughter of J. Edward and Carol L. (Hasslacher) Luders.

She was united in marriage to James M. O'Donnell on August 30, 1971, in Elka Park, New York.

She leaves behind her husband Jim and their three sons: Nicholas M. (and his wife, Sydney) O'Donnell of Salt Lake City, UT; Andrew C. O'Donnell of New York City; Jonathan D. O'Donnell of Durham, NC; all of whom loved her and will miss dearly her love for them. Her mother: Carol H. Luders of Old Greenwich, CT; a brother: David G. (and his wife, Teresa) Luders of Spokane, WA; two sisters: Anne F. Campbell of Norwalk, CT and Mary L. (and her husband, Rev. Dr. Kendrick) Norris of Guilford, CT and a precious little granddaughter: Zoe Cheek-O'Donnell of Salt Lake City, UT.

Services were held on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at College Park United Brethren Church, Huntington with Pastor Gary Dilley officiating.

At Lizzie's request, her earthly body is being donated to the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Memorials are to College Park Church or to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
