Lawyer and a member of both the Connecticut State Assembly and the Connecticut State Senate. He was a member of the Connecticut Constitutional Convention of 1902.
He resided in Granby, Connecticut, active in the affairs of the town, held many offices including Justice of the Peace for many years. Was in the legislature 1870, 1875, 187.

His son William M. MALTBIE was also a lawyer and became Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court.
