∼Annie E. Pell was the firstborn of Martha Dunbar (1811-95) and newspaper editor John Francis Hamtramck Claiborne (c. 1808-85), whose wedding had taken place two years earlier in Natchez, Mississippi.
Her grandparents were Magdalene Celeste "Mary" Hutchins (1777-1816) and Ferdinand Leigh Claiborne (1772-1815) and Martha Willis (1780-1870) and William Dunbar (1775-1828).
William Charles Cole Claiborne, the first governor of Louisiana, was an ancestor.
