Special to The Tribune
DRAGERTON, Carbon County- A Sunnyside, Carbon County man was killed on his 26th birthday early Sunday in a one-car accident on Utah Highway 123.
Domingo Steven Lucero died instantly about 2:30 a.m. when his car missed an "S" curve about seven miles east of Dragerton. His body was not found until 6 a.m. when Deputy Sheriff Jay Fowler investigated reports of an overturned car and discovered Mr. Lucero's body near the wreckage. The victim was alone in the car. The overturning car threw him out and then apparently rolled over him, Deputy Fowler reported.
Trooper Don Christensen, Utah Highway Patrol, and Deputy Keith Hansen said the car traveled more than 1,000 feet after missing the curve, rolling over several times. The wreckage was between 300 to 400 feet from the road and could not be seen by passing motorists until daylight, officers said.
Mr. Lucero was born April 23, 1935, in Durango, Colo., a son of Lucas and Eufrida Abyta Lucero. He was employed at the Kaiser Steel coal mine at Dragerton. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He married Sharron Killion July 26, 1958, in Grand Junction, Colo. She survives with a daughter, Patricia Lynn Lucero, and his parents, all of Dragerton; and brothers and a sister, Rudy Lucero, Los Angeles; Lalo Lucero, Salt Lake City; Lucas and Miss Clofes Lucero, both of Dragerton.
