June was born, June 13, 1921, the third daughter of Frank and Dessie (Sage) Rice, at their home on Second Park. The Rice and Sage families were early pioneer families of the Nucla area. June and her sisters grew up working on the family's Second Park ranch, spending their summers between the Meadows and 47 Camp riding and making memories that June often shared. June went to school at the Second Park schoolhouse and finished her schooling at Nucla High School, graduating 1939. June's most cherished moments were those spent with her family and friends. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, crocheting, reading, playing cards and riding horses.
Surviving family members include her son, William (Shirley) Littlejohn; daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Brown; her chosen son, Bob (Marty) Littlejohn; daughter-in-law, Judy (Ed) Campbell; eight gradnchildren: Peggy, Duane, Ivan, Paula, Kathy, Penni, Bobby, Deanna; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence K. "Butch" Littlejohn; her parents, and sisters, Nellie Bennett, Viola Graybeal, and Evelyn Garvey.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept 5, 2009, at 11 am at the Union Congregational Church in Nucla, Colo. Burial will follow the service at the Nucla Cemetery in Nucla. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nucla & Naturita Ambulance District, in memory of June Littlejohn., Arrangements are under the Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory.
