William was born in Canada, it is unknown when he came to the United States, he did however, serve as a soldier in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Sergeant 16 Aug 1861, left New Hampshire 26 Sept 1861. He was wounded but unknown where, he did finish his three contract being mustered out 06 Oct 1864 as a Full 1st Lieutenant. He received a pension for his wounds and or disease.

He was an employee of the railroad for many years, he and his wife Sarah lived at 485 Granite St. and owned that home. He died 11 May 1892.
