U.S. Congressman. Born in York Spring, Pennsylvania, he was raised as a farmer and graduated from the pharmaceutical department of the Ohio Northern University, in 1899. He then was employed as a pharmacist in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1903, served as mercantile appraiser of Adams County, clerk to the county commissioners, (1904-05), engaged in the drug, banking, manufacturing and was Postmaster of Gettysburg, (1910-14). In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth Congress, serving until 1917. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1917-21) and engaged in the drug business in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, until his death at age 49.
