Aug. 9, 1838
Age 4 m's & (?)
This marker is located in Section/Block 32 and Lot 64, between Prairie Avenue and Maple Avenue within the cemetery. It is in a large grouping of old markers with death dates primarily from the mid 1800's.
Per the cemetery office, this group of graves was moved from the "Old Cemetery" originally located near what is now the intersection of Detroit Street (Rt. 15) and East Winona Avenue in Warsaw, IN, to Oakwood Cemetery. The graves are believed to have been moved shortly after Oakwood Cemetery was founded in 1874.
It is aligned in a row with several other DAVIS family markers. It appears Mahlon DAVIS (~1809-1849), was likely married twice, Julia A. (~1810-1838) and Priscilla A. (~1816-1847). Several of the DAVIS grave markers are for children of either Mahlon & Priscilla A. or Mahlon & Julia A. DAVIS. Based upon the marker inscriptions, Mahlon, Julia and Priscilla all died in their 20's and 30's. Several of the children died between 1 and 4 years of age.
Wives of Mahlon F. Davis:
Julia Ann Davis (~1810-1838)
Priscilla A. Davis (~1816-1847)
Children of Mahlon F. Davis:
Maryann A. Davis (Mother-Priscilla)
William W. Davis (Mother-Priscilla)
Joseph W. Davis (Mother-Priscilla)
Clifton M. Davis (Mother-Julia Ann)
Charles M. Davis (Mother-Julia Ann)
