Harry Braden, a son of Richard J. and Ermina (Dickinson) Braden grew up in Clay Twp. of Decatur Co., IN. At an early age he became skilled in baseball and joined the Greensburg Reds team at the turn of the century. Noted as an excellent shortstop, Boots Braden was drafted both by the Evansville, IN and Fort Worth, TX ball clubs, but declined both offers.

He married Caroline (Carrie) Ehrhardt Dec. 13, 1900, the couple moving to Greensburg when Harry began a long career as a motorman for the Indianapolis & Cincinnati Traction Company, a position which he held for 15 years. He operated cars from Indianapolis to Shelbyville as well as from Indianapolis to Connersville. During his first 13 years with the company, Harry traveled a total of 965,000 miles.

Elected sheriff of Decatur Co. in 1920, Harry held that position for two terms. He then was employed as an IN State Game Warden for a number of years before moving to Columbia City, IN. A final move was made to Sturgis, MI where he worked for the Freeman Manufacturing Company until his death.

Harry was a member of the Greensburg Methodist Church, the Greensburg Lodge, F. & A.M., Lois Chapter #147 O.E.S., the Knights of Phytias, and the Eagle Lodge.

The Bradens were parents of two children, a son, Lewis and a daughter, Leah.

The headstone birth inscription is incorrect. Harry's birth year is documented in primary sources as 1880./jlka
