Elaine May Patnode returned to her Heavenly Father on November 29, 2010. Elaine was born December 15, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Emil and Gladys Hancock. During World War II, Elaine was a Pharmacist's Mate, Third Class, in the U.S. Navy, in her own words "a Navy Wave." She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served 15 years in the Primary Children's organization. She resided in the Antelope Valley for 53 years. Elaine was employed over 20 years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse working first at Lancaster Community Hospital and then later at Antelope Valley Hospital. Her hobbies included genealogy, reading, traveling and quilting. She married Arthur Eudena Patnode on August 27, 1943, in Las Vegas, Nev. They were married for 57 years and had seven children. Elaine was a devoted wife and mother and her family was her greatest joy. Elaine was preceeded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and two grandchildren. Survivors include her children; Carolyn Herle (Harlan), Maurine Kelley Harrold (Charles) of Marysville, Calif., Paul Patnode (Vicki) of Lancaster, Donald Patnode (Karen) of Lancaster, Anita Guernsey (Brock) of Olathe, Kan., Denise Patnode of Provo, Utah, and Eugene Patnode of Long Beach, Calif., 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren. In addition through marriage, she is survived by 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. The visitation and funeral services will be held at Joshua Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., with a visitation prior from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday December 6, 2010. Interment will immediately follow service at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster.
